Wisdom Chapter of The Way of The Bodhisattva (August 20-27, 2011)

By Geshe Dorji Damdul

It is August and the rolling hills of Kangra are covered in dark rain clouds. At Deer Park however there are blessings showering down in the form of Geshe Dorje Damdul’s teachings on the ninth chapter (also known as the ‘Wisdom’ chapter) of “Bodhicharyavatara”, one of the central root texts of Mahayana Buddhism, composed by Acharya Shantideva in the 8th (?) century. Coming from the thirsty plains, one cannot seem to have enough of both the rain and the wisdom!

During the seven day long teachings, Geshe la took one on an amazing journey of discovery, presenting the profound teachings as one would carefully unfold a precious antique silk scarf to reveal an exquisite pattern. Geshe la’s English is immaculate and he speaks with great clarity, enthusiasm and insight. His energy and compassion are infectious and he has the ability to address and inspire a wide cross section of audience—Easterners, Westerners, those new to the Dharma, as well as seasoned scholars and practitioners. Geshe la patiently answered all questions and clarified doubts from the eager audience that filled Manjushri Hall. One came away with the feeling of awe at the incredible depth and subtlety of the teachings and with immense gratitude to Geshe la and the organizers at Deer Park for having made this auspicious exchange possible.
