During the Diwali holiday, all Deer Park’s full-time staff had a vacation to Parashar Lake. The trip took 4 hours, but we stopped by many places like Hindu temples and Mandi for lunch before we reached the actual place. We arrived there around 4pm. It was very cold. Nevertheless, the place was very beautiful up on the hill, surrounded by valleys. We could see clusters of hills and mountains from there. All the staff really enjoyed the place, the scenery, the air and the atmosphere around. We played games together as soon as we arrived. We also went to a Hindu temple about 10 minutes walk from where we were staying, which they said marked the spot where in 2000 BC a Rishi lived and meditated. Next to the temple there was a lake, in the middle of which there was an island that keeps moving. There was a photo which was taken decades back where the position of the island was exactly in the opposite direction to where it was when we were there.
On the first day, we spent the night telling each other ghost stories, from both real experience and hearsay. The stories felt quite timely, because we were staying in a place where we were the first guests. We continued with a singing competition to find Deer Park’s Idol, around the room heater (sorry, not a campfire). On the second day, we went up to highest hill in the area to see the panoramic view, meditate and play local games (kabadee). We left the place and headed back to Deer Park at 11 a.m. Overall the vacation was a very nice, exciting and memorable trip, thanks to Deer Park
